Observed once by passing ships, the light house is now unused and today provides a reference for dive boats and longtails to locate and area where divers and snorkellers can still visit the peaceful waters and pristine aquatic flora and fauna of the bay.
The road down to the bay stops at a partly built resort about 200 metres before the sea, so you will need to continue climbing down the rocky hill. From here , you will also need to swim for another few hundred metes to the snorkelling point. It is easier and much more convenient to get here by boat....Koh Tao Perfect blog

ONE OF THE TOP THREE SNORKELLING PLACES ON KOH TAO.
Aow Mung lacated on the north coast of the island is named after the many mango trees which were once here. It's a lage bay with a small beach and coral reef on either side. Often the water is calm and clear. the sandy seafloor giving the water a beautiful turquoise hue. The easiest way ot get here is by boat, though you can take the long walk via concrete road and through the forest.

SAIREE BEACH IS THE LONGEST ON THE ISLAND AND STRETCHES 1.85 KM UP THE WEST COAST.
It's the most popular and busiest beach on Koh Tao and the surrounding area offers a wide range and variety of accommodation, dive centres, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and lots of nightlife. It's a great place to spend the day topping up your tan, or, if you are feeling energetic, a game of beach volleyball, frisbee or football. There is also a coral reef just 30 metres from the shore for a spot of snorkelling, and with lots of sand and shallow water, the beach is ideal for famlies with children.

This area is a cape at the south end of Sairee Beach, from where you get a great view of the whole of the beach and Koh Nang Yuan in the background. It is famous for the large boulder inscribed with the intials of His Majesty the King Chulalongkorn - Rama V which were carved during his visit to the island in 1899. There is also a statue of His Majesty.

There are many listed viewpoints, although a walk up the nearest hill will probably reward you with stunning views of ocean, coastline and lush green interior all in one scene.
The bays around the island are all perfect for snorkelling with shallow coral reefs only a short distance from the store. Below is a list of Koh Tao's beaches, bays and viewpoints for you to enjoy alng with the sunshine and sea breeze.
Mae haad is the port town where the piers and located. There is still a feel of there local Thai lifestyle here. This is also where the government offices are, the police station, post office, health centre, banks, school and temple can be found. It's a good place for shopping for Thai souvenirs, beachwear, beach games and hand made jewelry. There are also dive equipment stores where you can buy everything from masks and fins for snorkelling to the latest scuba diving gear.
An interesting place to snorkel here, is the shipwreck which sank in 1962, located at the south end of the bay.
