AOW LEUK (KOH TAO)
AOW LEUK MEANS 'DEEP BAY AND IS NAMED FOR ITS DEEP. CONCAVE SHAPE AS WELL AS THE DEPTH OF THE SNORKELLING EVEN AT VERY LOW TIDE.
The scenery here is stunning. With the white sandy beach and the water varying shades of blue, and Shark Island in the background, it's one of the most popular site for snorkelling and is amongst the most beautiful places on the island. There is a coral reef on both sides of the bay and it begins right off the beach in the shallows. You don't have to go very far at all to see and abundance of marine life. The large sandy sea floor makes it ideal for swimming and lounging in the water and it is used a lot for diver training....Koh Tao Perfect Blog
Looking After yourself on KOH TAO
WHILST KOH TAO SEEMS LIKE THE PERFECT TROPICAL PARADISE, THERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND HEALTHWISE TO ENSURE YOUR STAY HERE IS AS ENJOYABLE AS POSSIBLE.
On arrival in Thailand, the first thing to affect most people is the heat. Event if it is overcast, the sun is still strong, so take care to cover up, particularly your head and wear a good sunscreen. Be even more careful if you are in or by the sea, as reflection and deceptively cool sea breezes enhance burning. Wear a T-shirt fro example if you spend a while out snorkelling, but keep checking the backs of your legs for sunburn!
Drink lots of water to keep hydrated and let yourself acclimatize before going on a long hiike around the island. Coconut water is good to drink as it contains electrolytes, and rehydration salts are available as well. Effects of too much sun apart from burning include stomach upset, headaches, vimiting and fever and can be serious. seek immediate medical attention for this and/or heat exhaustion.
Insects, especially mosquitoes can also cause problems when they sting or bite. Cover up and wear a good repellent and try not to scratch any bites. Use tiger balm or lavender oil on bites to relieve inching and discomfort.
Upset stomach with vomiting and diarrhea is usually food related, but if could be a bacterial infection or virus. Reagardless of the cause, dehyfration can be a problem if fluids can't be kept down and medical attention may be needed. Also, minor cuts and scatches can get infected very quickly, so keep any wounds clean and visit a clinic if you need help....Koh Tao Perfect Blog
